THE INFLUENCE OF LIGHT QUALITY AND LIGHT INTENSITY ON REGENERATION OF KALANCHOE-BLOSSFELDIANA-HYBRIDS IN VITRO

Abstract:
Leaf explants were grown under six different types of fluorescent lamps.
Regeneration was affected by lamp type.
Best results were obtained in cultures under Interna and Warm White de Luxe.
Both lamp types emited high amounts of orange-red light.
Between two plant growth lamps, Gro-Lux and Fluora, nearly identical in the range of 400 – 735 nm differences in growth response were observed.
Fluora was clearly inferior to Gro-Lux.
These differences increased with increasing light intensities.
That might be caused by a higher emission of Fluora in the near UV range.
By eliminating near UV it was possible to avoid the inhibitory effect.
