Abstract:
Mycoplasma-like organisms (MLO), previously reported in Japanese plum-trees with decline (JPD), were observed in apricot, peach, almond, sweet cherry and European plum trees graft-inoculated with buds from a naturally infected Japanese plum-tree.
Symptoms in experimentally infected apricot, peach, almond and sweet cherry trees were similar to those reported in apricot affected by chlorotic leaf roll (ACLR). No obvious symptoms were observed in European plum-trees.
This work indicates that the disorder described in this paper and the apricot chlorotic leaf roll are closely related diseases and for the first time shows the susceptibility of almond and sweet cherry trees to JPD.
