ISHS Acta Horticulturae 129: III International Symposium on Small Fruit Virus Diseases

THE OCCURRENCE OF APPLE MOSAIC VIRUS IN RED AND BLACK RASPBERRY AND IN BLACKBERRY CULTIVARS

Authors:   G. Baumann, R.H. Converse, R. Casper
Abstract:
Apple mosaic virus (ApMV) was found in symptomless plants of Rubus ursinus, R. idaeus and R. occidentalis in the United States of America. Latent infection of the red raspberry cv. 'Schoenemann' was detected in Germany. In one German field, however, bright yellow mosaic and line patterns were observed on leaves of 'Schoenemann' plants. No fruit symptoms or reduction in the growth of canes were found. The disease was transmitted to several red raspberry cultivars by grafting. A virus was isolated from these plants and identified as ApMV. Symptoms of ApMV and raspberry busht dwarf virus in sap inoculated Chenopodium quinoa are very similar to each other.
