Abstract:
PhP buffer (0.05 M phosphate (pH 7.0) with 2% polyvinyl-pyrrolidone, (PVP), mw 10,000) was found to be far superior to buffers commonly used to facilitate the mechanical transmission of raspberry bushy dwarf, tobacco streak, and tomato ringspot viruses from Rubus and the two latter from Fragaria to herbaceous hosts.
With this buffer successful transmissions were obtained with raspberry bushy dwarf, tobacco streak, and tomato ringspot viruses from field-grown Rubus and the two latter from Fragaria to Chenopodium quinoa even late in autumn, thus extending the season during which bioassay by mechanical transmission from these species is possible.
