Abstract:
National Vegetable Research Station virologists and plant breeders are collaborating to identify sources of resistance to a number of vegetable virus diseases.
The genetical nature of virus resistance is being studied and breeding programmes have been started to synthesise cultivars with resistance to turnip mosaic and cauliflower mosaic viruses in various brassicas, to bean common and yellow mosaic viruses in dwarf French beans, to cucumber mosaic virus in marrow and to lettuce mosaic virus in lettuce.
