ISHS Acta Horticulturae 127: IV Conference on recent Advances in Vegetable Virus Research

RESISTANCE TO TRANSMISSION OF APHID-BORNE NONPERSISTENT VIRUSES IN VEGETABLES

Author:   S. Cohen
Abstract:
The best way to control virus diseases is by using resistant varieties. From the point of view of plant breeding, resistance can be classified into two main types: resistance of the plant to virus and, tendency to escape infection. Several factors could be responsible for the tendency to escape infection: resistance to the vector and resistance to virus infection. Knowledge of the mechanism involved in the resistance to virus infection is incomplete but, there are some indications that it interferes with the introduction of the viral agent into the host or with the spread of the virus in the infected plant.
