EFFECT OF ROOT TEMPERATURE AND PROPAGATION MEDIA ON CHRYSANTHEMUM IN CIRCULATING NUTRIENT SOLUTION

Abstract:
The effect of root temperature (16, 20 and 24 °C) on growth and flowering of four cultivars of Chrysanthemum morifolium Ram. grown in circulating nutrient solution at an air temperature of 16 °C, was studied. Shoot growth increased with increasing root temperature, and plants grown at a solution temperature of 24 °C flowered three days earlier than those at 16 °C.

The effect of the containers and the medium in which the plants were propagated was also investigated. Overall growth was best in the largest pots (8 cm). Plants grown in rockwool cubes flowered three days earlier than plants in peat pots, but were of poorer quality.
