LIQUID FEEDING TECHNIQUE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF POT CHRYSANTHEMUMS |

| Abstract:
A factorial experiment using two substrates, peat and bark, was run on the production of two cultivators of pot chrysanthemums to compare three N:P2O5:K2O ratios, 2:1:1, 1:1:1 and 2:1:4, fed either as liquid feeding or as base fertiliser. The experiment also included Osmocote and Nutricote slow release fertilisers and also compared the effects of supplementary illumination. The result of this experiment showed that liquid feeding produced better quality plants than base feeding alone due to the fact that the plants which only had base feeding ran out of nutrients whereas with continual liquid feeding there was always a plentiful supply of nutrients. The experiment showed that the best ratio for liquid feeds is 2N:1P2O5:4K2O and that if supplementary light is given even better quality flowers can be obtained. | |
