Abstract:
Water and mineral nutrition of horticultural plants using the Coïc method should be performed under the following three conditions:
1° - Use only balanced nutrient solutions in conformity with plant water requirements.
A slight excess in nutrient solution will produce a drainage allowing for the removal of excess ions and avoiding salinity phenomena.
2° - Use a substrate selected for its main physical properties : aeration (permeability), water retention capacity, nutritive ion retention capacity, pH. Air capacity is of prevailing importance.
3° - Produce good nutrient solutions from waters which may be bad or even considered unsuitable for irrigation.
The best way of using bad waters for cultural water supply is to convert them into nutrient solutions.
