ISHS Acta Horticulturae 126: Symposium on Substrates in Horticulture other than Soils In Situ

SANITARY ANALYSIS OF SUBSTRATES

Author:   D. Bouhot
Abstract:
Methods for sanitary analysis of soils can be used to estimate contamination of substrates by pathogenic fungi and bacteria. They are of two types : the first one are used for numeration of parasites by the way of selective medium, the others are used to estimate infectivity of substrates by the way of plant-baits and are more practical.

All thyse methods allow - to detect presence or absence of a parasite in a substrate - to look for the origin of pollution (water, seeds, tools, containers, …) - to survey sanitary state of substrates when imported or traded. This last point is impossible without a special laboratory for routine analysis.
