ISHS Acta Horticulturae 126: Symposium on Substrates in Horticulture other than Soils In Situ

AN OUTLOOK ON SUBSTRATES IN FRANCE

Author:   D. Blanc
Abstract:
In the present time, much of the available substrates in France contain, partly or on the whole, imported materials. The research for inland substrates has led to draw up an inventory of available materials (natural, sinthetical, wastes and residues).

Quite different materials give good results. Nevertheless, in some mineral substrates, the addition of a limited quantity of peat is proved to be necessary. Until now, peat remains the best material for a type of production such as pot plants and vegetative multiplication. A substitute for peat is not yet available.
