LOW AND HIGH CRITICAL LEVELS OF NITROGEN, PHOSPHORUS AND POTASSIUM FOR CHRYSANTHEMUM /CHRYSANTHEMUM MORIFOLIUM CV. BALCOMBE PERFECTION/

Abstract:
The research was carried out in pot experiments using peat moss as a substrate. Studied nutrients were applied from insufficient to toxic levels: 0 – 3.0 g N/l, 0 – 6.4 g P/l and 0 – 5.32 g K/l of the substrate.

Lower blades were found to be most satisfactory for the estimation of N, P, K nutrition of chrysanthemum on the basis of soluble form analysis.

Low and high critical levels, which provide the extreme concentration of the luxury consumption range, were the following:

1/ intensive vegetative growth /1 month after potting/: 11369 – 15919 ppm N-NO3, 9637 – 18500 ppm P-PO4 and 6.57 – - 8.43 % K

2/ bud forming /2 months/: 9137 – 15125 ppm N-NO3, 9350 – 18950 ppm P-PO4, 5.27 – - 8.12 % K

3/ full blooming /4 months/: 2319 – 8219 ppm N-NO3, 2937 – 22850 ppm P-PO4, 3.89 – - 7.58 % K

Optimum levels of the nutrients in the substrate for obtaining the best growth and quality of chrysanthemum plants varied in wide ranges: 150 – 450 mg N-NO3, 80 – 2200 mg P-PO4 and 150 – 1200 mg K/l of the substrate.
