Abstract:
In relation with the opening ceremony of the International Symposium on Chrysanthemums, I am conveying best greetings of the President of the ISHS Prof.
Fritz, the Secretary general Dr. de Bakker and of the Section for Ornamental Plants.
Besides, I should like to express my best wishes for good results of your demonstration in the field of chrysanthemum research.
On behalf of the ISHS, especially in the name of the Section for Ornamental Plants, I like to thank the convener, particularly Prof.
Lemattre and his staff, for the work done and to all of them who are contributing to make this symposium to a success.
It is already a tradition that an official representative of the society informs participants of symposia about the most important activities of ISHS. One of them is the periodical arrangement of international congresses that take place every four years.
The last one was held in Sydney/Australia in 1978, the next International Horticultural Congress will take place in Hamburg/Germany F.R. in 1982 from August 29 to September 4. This congress will focus on "Horticulture in the Industrial Society" but great a variety of problems and aspects of horticulture sciences will be dealt with.
Pre- and post-congress tours to different places of northern, north-western and southern Europe will be arranged.
In the name of the German conveners, I should like to cordially invite all of you to attend the 21st International Horticultural Congress, Hamburg 1982.
Let me give also some informations about the Section for Ornamental Plants of ISHS. Today 78 members of 33 countries belong to it.
We hope that in future the number of countries as well as the number of members will increase.
Some countries with important research in floriculture are not represented already.
The next two symposia will take place after the Hamburg-Congress in 1983, firstly about "Carnation Culture" in San Diego, California/U.S.A., secondly about "Production Planning in Glasshouse Floriculture" in Aarslev/Denmark.
Now, Ladies and Gentlemen, I am sure this applies to all those are present, it is a special joy to stand on the threshold of another interesting symposium, besides in the historical well known Versailles, in the neighbourhood of one of the most beautiful capitals of the world, to discuss important professional problems.
But just so important might be that there is four days long the possibility to confirm human contacts and make new friends.
I am sure that we will be successful.
Thank you very much.
Wolf-Uwe v.
Hentig
Chairman of the Section for Ornamental Plants, ISHS.
