Abstract:
Weed problems within the farming systems of fruit and vegetable production in Nigeria are reviewed.
Weed control strategies that would be required within the context of expanded and improved fruit and vegetable production are outlined.
While weed control is not a major limiting factor in fruit and vegetable production under compound farming system, it constitutes a major bottleneck to fruit and vegetable production in the traditional distant farming system and in the dry season flood plain farming.
Research findings in the use of live much, plant density manipulation for weed control are discussed, while evaluated herbicides for weed control in okra, tomato and onion are highlighted.
