Abstract:
The pattern of fruits and vegetables production was examined in relation to the agro-climate of south western Nigeria.
Information about soil fertility management systems for increasing crop yield is scanty.
Nitrogen (N) was identified as the most important nutrient and like P and K, response was controlled by its status and availability in the soil.
Reference was made to the soil as the medium of plant nutrition and the need for soil testing as a requirement for adequate fertilizer recommendations.
The advantages of balanced nutrition, timing and methods of fertilization, and types of nutrient carriers were discussed.
