GENETIC RESOURCES OF VEGETABLE CROPS IN NIGERIA AND THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO CROP IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMMES

Authors:   L. Denton, V. Swarup, P. Nath
Abstract:
Nigeria has rich genetic resources of vegetables. There are cultivated, semi-wild and wild species of crops which are being used as vegetables. Most of these have large variability. The various attempts made so far to collect, conserve and utilise the vegetable germplasm in the crop improvement programmes in this country are reviewed. The need to intensify the work in this field and the strategy for future development are discussed.
