ISHS Acta Horticulturae 122: Symposium on Timing of Field Production of Vegetables

PRODUCTION PLANNING IN FIELD PRODUCTION OF VEGETABLES, CONCERNING ECONOMY, AREA AND CAPACITY FOR WORK.

Author:   E. Moes
Abstract:
By a combination of practice and the latest research results, the producer of outdoor vegetables must try to produce his products in the economical optimal way. He must seek the production method which gives him the maximum margin between sales and costs.

If he finds this productionmethod for everyone of his different products, he will discover, that these products contribute with widely different economical result to payment of the fixed costs.

Likewise the products will "pay" the limiting resources area, labour, maschines etc, widely different.

By production planning the producer must seek the combination of products, which can be produced within the resources of the farm, and which, on the same time, guarantees him the maximum profit.

This combination of products is very difficult to calculate by hand, but by using the linear programming technic, calculated on computer, there is founded a method which solves these production planning problems in practise.
