Abstract:
Honourable audience,
Today the first stage of the VII-th International Symposium on “Apricot culture and decline”, assigned for presentation of the papers and communications within the 5 working sections is closed.
There were presented by the specialists from 19 participating countries, 54 papers.
It must be emphasized the primary scientific importance both of the papers and araised problems which have proved to be of a great interest in apricot culture from theoretical and practical point of view.
The presentation form of the papers allowed for an accurate understanding of the discussed matters and it kept the vivid attention and interest of the participants.
We think that the friendly atmosphere achieved during the Symposium period is a result of scientists' direct relationships and valuable exchange of views.
We hope to have also the same favourable climate during the documentary visits in the production units in some representative areas for apricots culture from our country.
On this occasion, I would like once again to mention some of the important matters discussed within the working sections.
Here it is a concise enumeration:
- the primary importance given in finding the ecological areas favourable to apricot culture.
In this respect, it must be taken into account the soil characteristics: porosity, pH, macro-and micro-elements content, excess or lack of water as well as the climatic conditions, especially the air temperature before and after blooming time;
- the near expectations of the present assortment improvement (varieties and rootstocks) due to the remarkable achievements reached by the scientists from Soviet Union, USA, Romania, France, Hungary, Yugoslavia and the others in the past 20–25 years;
