ISHS Acta Horticulturae 121: VII Symposium on Apricot Culture and Decline

PRESENT STATUS AND FIRST RESULTS OF THE WORK IN PROGRESS ON APRICOT BREEDING IN FRANCE

Author:   J. COURANJOU
Abstract:
In 1973, I had presented the Apricot breeding programme in France at the 5th Symposium on Apricot held in MADRID. I had especially explained:
  • The objectives of breeding to aim at the checking of the difficulties encountered in growing in France resulting from the characteristics of this species.
  • The choice of the parents and the breeding methods in order to realize in the same time:
    • An obvious genetical improvement since the first generation.
    • The reach of limits for aimed characters;
    • Genetical studies (genotype, combining ability, inheritance...).

With the passage of time, we have got a number of results of our breeding programme and have reached to a stage of completion of this work. We have now started the work on second generation.
