Rhizobacteria are root associated bacteria and are since long shown to effect the yield of crop.
Despite being world's costliest spice there were no reports available of rhizosphere ecology of saffron.
In the present study, the rhizobacteria isolated randomly from rhizosphere of saffron being cultivated in two fields selected on the basis of yield i.e high yielding and low yielding were identified.
The rhizobacteria were identified on the basis of microscopy, biochemical and molecular analysis.
In this preliminary study, indications of rhizobacteria composition being dependent on soil type rather than plant were found.
