ISHS Acta Horticulturae 120: Symposium on Growth Regulators in Fruit Production

THE EFFECT OF LONG CHILLING REQUIREMENT ON TIME OF BUD BREAK IN APPLE

Authors:   H.J. Swartz, L.E. Powell Jr
Abstract:
Late blooming apple cultivars require more heat accumulation for bud growth than early blooming types. Part of this difference can be eliminated by giving late blooming types over 1400 additional hours of chilling. ABA levels in early and late blooming apple buds differed in pattern of accumulation, but not in concentration.
