ROLE OF THE INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH CO-OPERATION IN SOLVING APRICOT PROBLEMS

Abstract:
The 3rd International Symposium on Apricots and Apricot Cultures, as you know, has been divided in two parts and will hold its meeting on the same subject here, in Lednice na Morave, Czechoslovakia /23–28 May 1966/ and in Maryland, U.S.A. /15–20 August 1966/ during the XVIIth International Horticultural Congress. That was suggested at the 2nd International Symposium on the Apoplexy of Apricots /Aug. 31-Sept. 8, 1962, Brussels, Belgium, XVIth Int. Hort. Congress/ and established by the Section for Fruits I.S.H.S. /Wilhelminadorp, Goes, Holland, 25–26 May, 1965/ by the Executive Committee I.S.H.S. /Oosterbeek, Holland 28–29 May, 1965/. Each part of the 3rd International Symposium will represent a regional meeting for the countries allocated to the mentioned centers.

It was suggested by the Section for Fruits that some Working Groups should cease to exist or had to be or short existence and organized only for fulfilment of a definite purpose, such as gathering of some data or organizing meetings. Meanwhile, our Working Group has the statute of a permanent body like the Working Group on Nomenclature and Registration of Fruit Cultivars.

Why? Because of the following:

  1. The complex nature of the sudden wilting of apricot tress.
  2. Lack of systematic investigation of the apricot problems.
  3. Lack of sufficient peoples to cover all necessary apricot problems and research projects.
  4. Need of scientific and practical solutions for further
