ISHS Acta Horticulturae 119: III International Symposium on Water supply and Irrigation in the open and under Protected Cultivation

THE INFLUENCE OF IRRIGATION ON THE DEVELOPMENT AND YIELD OF ASPARAGUS

Author:   H.D. Hartmann
Abstract:
The significance of the additional water supply in asparagus has been discussed. Water - shortage can lead to losses by dryness, additional water gifts in dependence on the climatic zone and the soil and the weather conditions can lead to additional yields, above all in the desired first qualities. Through the supply of water higher yield increases can be achieved for example through fertilization. Comparable increases are realized only through modern varieties. Increase of quality is of significance for the input of labour too. Technically spoken the trickle irrigation has been successful. Sprinkling instruction should be given by the official extension service or by the weather service broadcast by the radio in a special programme.
