WATER CONSUMPTIVE USE IN IRRIGATED BY FLOOD, DRIP AND NON IRRIGATED PEACH TREES

Abstract:
Soil water content was measured with a neutron probe at different depths and different distances from the trunk in irrigated by drip, flood and non irrigated peach trees, for two years.

Trees were irrigated daily by drip irrigation at 100% and 50% E.T. in 1978 and 100% and 33% E.T. in 1979. E.T. was estimated from US Weather Bureau Class A. A theoretical crop coefficient factor of 0.6 was used and corrected for approximately 45% ground cover of the trees. Flood irrigation was made when moisture, in the top 100 cm of soil, represented approximately 60% of water available.

Water applied in both years was almost the same for each treatment. Water extracted from drip irrigated trees at 100% E.T. was more elevated during the second year of the experiment.

In flood irrigated trees water applied was almost twice than that erogated in drip irrigated at 100% E.T.

The total amount of water evaporated from the surface during flooded time and from the top 15 cm of soil represented the 50% of total water applied by flood during 1979.

Moisture depletion from the soil (without adding water applied by irrigation) was higher in drip irrigated with 50% E.T. and 33% E.T. and non-irrigated trees.

During the second year of the experiments drip irrigated trees with 100% E.T. could utilize water available better extracting three times more water from the soil than that depleted during the first year.

Water extraction was more intensive from the top 105 cm of soil in all treatments. Moisture depletion in the deeper layers, was also high in non-irrigated and irrigated by drip with 50% and 33% E.T.
