| Abstract:
Gladly I comply with the request of the organisers to address myself to you, participants from various countries, that travelled to Wageningen to meet at this Symposium. In this day and age postharvest handling has become a very important link in the life of vegetables: the process from seed to product on the consumer's table. Apart from energy-saving problems, we are confronted with a scarcity of finances and of people. In my opinion it is of the utmost importance that this should be fully realised by all concerned. Cooperation on a wide international scale should be one of our goals and therefore I hope this will be in every way a successful Symposium, contributing to the solving of the problems: of postharvest handling of vegetables. | |
