Abstract:
We have evaluated shoot multiplication and pigment contents (chlorophyll a + b and total carotenoids) in Staphylea pinnata plants grown in different light conditions. Cultures were exposed to three different LED light combinations, with fluorescent lamps used as a control. Treatment with RB and RBfR lights resulted in increased multiplication rate (3.1 and 3.5 new shoots explant-1, respectively) and leaf chlorophyll content with respect to cultures grown under fluorescent lamps. The level of carotenoids was higher under the LED light compared to the fluorescent light. RBW light increased the number of newly developed leaves when compared to other treatments. These results suggest that LED light may be adapted as an alternative light source for in vitro shoot proliferation stage of the European bladdernut.
