RESPONSE OF DIFFERENT ORNAMENTALS TO A REDUCED HEATING AS RELATED TO LOCAL CLIMATES |

| Abstract:
It is generally observed that, when reducing the normal temperature of cultivation (not the plethoric temperature which was often applied before the crisis !), the duration of a crop is longer. That occurrence is very normal, especially with cut flowers where the duration of a crop corresponds to a well defined physiological cycle, and it agrees with a fairly constant heat-sum required for a physiological phase or for a definite sequence of phases, (from sowing to first anthesis for instance). It leads to the following questions: Is the result of a reduced daily fuel consumption (owing to a lower greenhouse temperature) per a longer duration of the crop, economical in total fuel consumption of the crop? or in net return? The answer must be variable, owing to the local greenhouse climatic conditions and to the crops. | |
