AN EVALUATION OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF DIFFERENT ENERGY CONSERVATION METHODS

Abstract:
The cost of production in a glass house is dependent of among other things the price of energy. A number of technical solutions in order to save energy have been developed. In commercial production in glasshouses an energy saving must also be looked upon in relation to the biologic effects and the total economic result.

In a glasshouse it is possible to control the climate within relatively wide limits. The economic optimal climate changes with the costs of each individual factor and the effect that this factor has on growth and development. Possible negative effects of one factor may in some cases be compensated by changing other controlable factors.

The growth and development of plants are a result of a complicated coordination of a number of factors. It may therefore be difficult to estimate what the economic result may be when environment, costs, and prices change.

In the following work the costs of production have been studied for different conditions and for some of the most interesting energy saving methods in practice in Sweden.
