A COMPARISON OF THE EFFECT OF SINGLE GLASS AND DOUBLE ACRYLIC SHEATING ON PLANT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT |

| Abstract:
Spray carnations, spray chrysanthemums and cucumbers have been grown in two identical greenhouses, one covered with single glass and the other with double acrylic sheating. Spray carnation had a yield of 11 % more sprays in the acrylic house. Cut chrysanthemum grew taller and heavier in the spring and reversed in the autumn, in the acrylic house. The flowering was one day delayed in the spring and 4 days late in the autumn in the acrylic house. Cucumber, planted in early January had a total yield of 6 % less in the acrylic house after 5 weeks of harvest. A second planting in late March had a total of 1.6 % less from the acrylic house after 7 weeks of harvest. | |
