ISHS Acta Horticulturae 115: Symposium on More Profitable Use of Energy in Protected Cultivation

DIGITAL CONTROL SYSTEM FOR GREENHOUSES

Authors:   B. Copet, J.-A. Videau
Abstract:
The main issue of this paper is the saving of energy and labour in greenhouses through the implementation of modern control strategies. Indeed, the rising cost of energy, as well as the decreasing cost of mini or micro-computers make it necessary and profitable to introduce automatic control in greenhouses. First, the protected cultivation process is analysed from an optimization point of view, by defining the physical, biological and economical subsystems on hand. The influence of measured perturbations on the system, and the necessity of introducing an energy criterion at every level of a hierarchical control structure are pointed out. Then, as an application, a digital control system for greenhouses is presented, that consists in two parts: temperature-a control problem-, humidity-an optimization problem-.
