ISHS Acta Horticulturae 115: Symposium on More Profitable Use of Energy in Protected Cultivation

USE OF AVERAGE NIGHT TEMPERATURES FOR PLANT GROWTH FOR POTENTIAL ENERGY SAVINGS

Authors:   R.W. Langhans, M. Wolfe, L.D. Albright
Abstract:
Lettuce plants grown in a controlled environment chamber with an average night temperature of 20°C (25° to 15°C) were the same as plants grown with a constant 20°C night temperature. Greenhouse grown pot chrysanthemums had the same physical size and flowered at the same time when grown with an average night temperature of 17°C (22° to 11°C) compared to a 17°C constant night temperature. The potential energy savings are discussed.
