ISHS Acta Horticulturae 115: Symposium on More Profitable Use of Energy in Protected Cultivation

HEAT EXCHANGER FOR LOW TEMPERATURE HEATING OF GLASSHOUSES

Author:   B. von Elsner
Abstract:
To be able to use low temperature heat sources for the heating of glasshouses the heaters must be enlarged or the heat transfer must be forced by blowers. It is necessary to find new heaters which do not reduce light and space for the crops too much. The choice of the heating system has to be done in regard to the available temperature of the heat source and the glasshouse construction and isolation, which influences the heat requirement. A suitable tool is the annual frequency distribution of the heat requirement of the glasshouse and the heat output function of the heating system. An example is given for the induction convector which was developed and adapted at the Institute for Horticultural Engineering at Hannover.
