ISHS Acta Horticulturae 115: Symposium on More Profitable Use of Energy in Protected Cultivation

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF GREENHOUSES

Author:   Marius G. Amsen
Abstract:
Energy saving, plant growth and environmental parameters were recorded and compared in 4 different greenhouses during the winter 1979–80.

The greenhouses were of identical shape, 8 x 21 meters. Two were covered with single glass, one with double glass, and one with double acryl. One of the single glasshouses acted as reference and the other was equipped with a mobile thermal screen of aluminized fabric.

The results indicate severe light reduction in the permanently insulated houses (i.e. double glass and double acryl). At night the highest leaf temperature was observed in the permanently and the mobile insulated houses.

In the day time the average air humidity was substancially higher in the permanently insulated houses than in the single glass houses.
