ISHS Acta Horticulturae 114: Symposium on Research and Development on Orchard and Plantation Systems

PERFORMANCE OF COMMERCIAL AND EXPERIMENTAL PLANTINGS OF TATURA TRELLIS

Authors:   B. van den Ende, D.J. Chalmers, W.K. Thompson
Abstract:
Commercial orchard evaluation of the Tatura Trellis system began in 1976. Peach trees (Prunus persica L. Batsch) produced a total of 78 tonnes per ha canninggrade fruit in the first four years. An assessment of costs and returns is presented, which indicate that growers can reach the financial break-even point four years after establishing a Tatura Trellis orchard of clingstone peach trees in Australia. Data from experimental apple and pear plantings are also presented.
