ISHS Acta Horticulturae 114: Symposium on Research and Development on Orchard and Plantation Systems

THE USE OF PRODUCTION POTENTIAL AS THE BASIS FOR CROP ESTIMATES AND ORCHARD APPRAISAL

Author:   Ronald B. Tukey
Abstract:
A method has been developed which makes it possible to more accurately appraise differences between orchards and their performance over time. Plantings are inventoried by cultivar for their production potential. This is the maximum weight of fruit the trees can physically support. Estimates of production are calculated as a percentage of the rise or decline of this potential. Fruit quality is related to the relationship between actual and potential production. Estimates of production requirements are similarly based on production potential.
