Effects of foliar application of humic acid on photosynthetic pigments, visual quality and height of three cool-season turfgrass species

Abstract:
Humic acids (HAs) are organic molecules capable of improving crop quality and performance. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of foliar application of humic acid at 0, 250, 500 and 1,000 mg L-1 on morphological and biochemical characteristics of Poa pratensis, Lolium perenne and Festuca aurandinacea as three cool-season turfgrass species. In all species, photosynthetic pigments and carotenoids were significantly increased by humic acid compared to control. In general, the highest visual quality and pigments were obtained in Lolium perenne and the highest height was gained in Festuca aurandinacea and Lolium perenne. Meanwhile, the lowest visual quality was measured in Poa pratensis.
