ISHS Acta Horticulturae 111: Symposium on Vegetable and Flower seed Production

SOME ASPECTS OF SIB PRODUCTION IN F1 CULTIVARS OF BRASSICA OLERACEA

Author:   T. Hodgkin
Abstract:
Sib levels are reported for a wide range of commercial seed crops of Brussels sprout and cabbage hybrid cultivars produced over twelve years in eight countries. The major source of variation was found to be the inbred used for hybrid production but variation due to crop, year of production and production environment was also significant. The results are discussed with reference to factors known to affect the level of self-incompatibility and the production of inbreds in F1 cultivars of Brassica oleracea.
