| Abstract:
The Apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) has been tested sporadically for adaptability to conditions east of the Rocky Mountains for many years. The present commercial production of apricots in the U.S.A. is located mainly in California. A more intensified program to develop an apricot industry in Michigan has been in effect for the past 30 years. Many of the stone fruits (Prunus sp.) such as peaches, cherries and plums are commercially grown in Michigan, indicating that certain climatic areas in the state might be favourable for apricots. In fact, single apricot trees of over 50 years in age can be found in certain locations of the state. However, in orchard tests tree loss is often too high, indicating that certain problems do exist. | |
