ISHS Acta Horticulturae 11: IV International Symposium on Apricots and Apricot Culture

EFFECT OF 2,4,5-T AND 2,4,5-TP ON THE CONTROL OF FRUIT DROP, INCREASE IN YIELD AND FRUIT QUALITY OF NEW CASTLE APRICOT

Authors:   L.K. Chadha, S.M. Bajwa
Abstract:
The plant growth regulators have been found to have a significant effect in reducing fruit drop in apricot (Crane 1953, 1955, 1956 and Singh et al 1961). The growth regulators used for this purpose have also resulted in increased yield (Crane, 1953), increased fruit size (Crane and Brooks, 1952; Blommaert 1957; and Jacobsen, 1961) and increase in flesh (Crane, 1956; Crane et al 1956). The quality of apricot has not been reported to be affected by these sprays (Crane and Brooks 1952 and Farmer et al 1958). Fruit drop takes a heavy toll of fully developed crop wherever apricot is grown. An experiment to find out the best doses of 2,4,5-T and 2,4,5-TP for reducing fruit drop in apricot under conditions prevailing at Kandaghat Simla Hills, India was laid out during 1966 and repeated during 1967. The present paper embodies the results of this work.
