ISHS Acta Horticulturae 11: IV International Symposium on Apricots and Apricot Culture

TWO NEW APRICOT VARIETIES OBTAINED BY INTA IN MENDOZA

Author:   F. Roby
Abstract:
Two new apricot cultivars have been obtained by F. Roby in the Centro Regional Andino of the Instituto Nacional de Technologia Agropecuaria, located in the province of Mendoza, República Argentina. They are called Junin inta and Andino inta. Both were originated from plants obtained by seed taken from an original collection of 21 varieties planted by the author in 1947, at the Experiment Station of Junín.

The sowing of the pits was made in 1953, at the Agricultural Experiment Station of Mendoza; since 1958, successive rigourous selections of the plants were made, rejecting the undesirable ones. From all this material, there appeared two outstanding samples, quite interesting for their quality, resistance to transportation and keeping conditions of the fruit, besides some other new differential characteristics.

Inta has begun this year to distribute the first multiplication of plants among the producers interested in their growing. Also, numerous plants have been already grafted for their propagation in 1969.
