Abstract:
The plum/anemone rust disease, caused by Tranzschelia discolor (Fuck.) Tranz. & Litr., has been known for many years in Great Britain (Brooks, 1911) and many investigations have been made on it both in Europe and America.
Because of the importance of stone fruits almost all of these studies have been on the uredinial stage which occurs on Prunus spp. (Brooks, 1977; Goldsworth and Smith, 1931; Scott and Stout, 1931; Tranzschel, 1935; Dunegan, 1936 and 1938; and Dunegan and Smith, 1941). Several authors have dealt with special aspects of the pathogen, e.g. urediniospore and teliospore germination (Dunegan, 1936 and 1939) and physiologic specialisation (Blumer, 1960; Sztejnberg, 1976 and Tsonkovski and Paneva, 1976). Of the stages that involve anemone only Dunegan's work on teliospore germination, D'Oliveira and Vierira Borges (1941) work on the aecial stage and Blumer's (1960) comparisons of the two Tranzschelia are relevant.
