Abstract:
Several isolates of Pythium ultimum known to induce only root rot in tulips and not soft rot of the bulb (coded as group 17) were found in vitro to be relatively insensitive to prothiocarb, but were sensitive to furalaxyl.
Isolates coded P1, known to induce both root rot and soft rot in tulips, were all sensitive to prothiocarb.
In strains of Stromatinia gladioli, resistance to vinchlozolin could be readily induced under laboratory conditions.
In glasshouse experiments this resistance acquired in vitro was nearly always accompanied by complete loss of pathogenicity of the isolates.
