EFFECT OF GROWTH REGULATORS ON SHOOT APEX DIFFERENTIATION AND CHANGES IN SUGARS AND FREE AMINO ACIDS IN GLADIOLUS (GLADIOLUS × HORTORUM CV. ACCA LAURENTIA)

Author:   J. Tonecki
Abstract:
Before planting in the greenhouse the corms of gladiolus cv. Acca Laurentia were soaked for 24 hours in the solutions of GA3, IAA and kinetin in conc. 100, 500, 1000 and 2000 mg. l-1. Observations of plant growth and anatomical investigations made 22 and 54 days after planting showed that GA3 and IAA hastened differentiation of floral primordia while kinetin retarded corm sprouting and shoot apex differentiation. Growth regulators significantly affected the distribution of sugars and free amino acids in the under- and overground plant parts and this is discussed in relation to shoot apex differentiation.
