Abstract:
Phenology, growth habits, bearing habits and fruit qualities of twelve introduced strawberry cultivars were evaluated in Kunming of Yunnan province and compared with major local cultivar ‘Kinuama’. The results showed that ‘Albion’ and ‘San Andreas’ were early-maturing, had good appearance, high productivity, high firmness and were good for shipping.
However as the taste was sour, they are suitable for processing only. ‘S-14’, ‘Hanyun’ and ‘Okhyang’ were also early-maturing, productive and good for shipping.
These cultivars tasted sweet and thus are more suitable for fresh consumption.
Although, ‘Seolhyang’, ‘Maehyang’ and ‘Shuying’ had low-yield, but could be used for breeding program because of the excellent nutritional quality of the fruits.
