ISHS Acta Horticulturae 100: Symposium on Production of Tomatoes for Processing

THE WORK OF THE COMMONWEALTH BUREAU OF HORTICULTURE AND PLANTATION CROPS IN PROVIDING HORTICULTURAL INFORMATION

Author:   D.O'D. Bourke
Abstract:
Founded in 1929, as one of the Bureaux and Institutes of the Commonwealth Agricultural Bureax (CAB) organization, the Commonwealth Bureau of Horticulture and Plantation Crops has been producing its most important publication, Horticultural Abstracts, since 1931. Formerly a quarterly publication, Horticultural Abstracts has been published monthly, by computer, since 1973. It provides an unrivalled coverage of the world's scientific literature on horticulture and plantation crops, both temperate and tropical, and, through its comprehensive monthly and annual subject indexes, the simplest and most complete word of reference in the field. Some 1200 world scientific publications in over 30 languages are scanned for its production. The Bureau also replies to enquiries from all over the world. It publishes review articles, books and pamphlets on horticultural subjects and compiles annotated bibliographies. It edits some of the CAB "repackaged" journals, taken from the whole CAB data base. Since January 1977 the whole of the CAB output (as from 1973) has been made accessible on-line via satellite from the Lockhead DIALOG system based in California.
